Cape Flattery Trail is located in the Makah Reservation at the most northwest point of the contiguous United States. Cape Flattery Trail features dramatic sights of rare, natural treasures including sea-stacks, craves, and wildlife including whales, eagles, and puffins. Visitors must purchase a $10.00 Makah Recreation Pass upon entrance of the reservation.

What can I see at Cape Flattery?

Seastacks, Fuca Pillar, Coves: Cape Flattery features stunning rock formations, seastacks, caves, and cliffs carved by centuries of crashing waves from the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It can be a spectacular sight to watch the waves break against the giant rocks. The seastacks, which are covered in lush green plants, mosses, and even trees are spectacular gems of the coast. If hikers have the time and the patience, it is suggested that hikers stop in different locations along the trail to listen to the different sounds that the waves create as they crash on different rocks and enter and exit caves.

Tide Pools: The Cape Flattery trail leads visitors down onto the shore below the mighty cliffs, where visitors can enjoy the wonders of some of the cleanest tide pools in the world. Creatures often found in these clear pools include anemones, giant starfish, crabs, and communities of shellfish.

Wildlife: With such nutrient rich water, Cape Flattery attracts rare and majestic animals of the sky, land, and of sea. Bald eagle season in Neah Bay is typically between January and April, when thousands of eagles spend the winter diving into the water for fish. There is a colony of Tufted Puffins who live in Cape Flattery. Known for their bright orange beaks, the male Tufted Puffin also features unusual white head-feathers. The best season to see the puffins is summer, when it is typically less cloudy in Cape Flattery. Cape Flattery is often a feeding point for migrating whale pods. Between March and May, visitors have the highest chance of glimpsing giant Gray Whales, Orca, and Humpback whales as they travel from their winter feeding grounds in California up to their summer waters near Alaska. Sea lions can typically be seen and heard from the trail year round, while sea otters sighting are a bit more of a treat.

2.How to find a good kayak rental company?

I like traveling and trying new things. I have been to 20 different city this past month. I have enjoy good food, good weather, roof top bars, and the beach. I also have enjoy learning and listening to interesting people. There are different rental programs across the country at universities and colleges. I came a cross a program about the local University of North Florida (UNF), they offer “Gear Check-out & Adventure Trips.” The students can use the gear for free, for example, kayaks, canoing, and rock climbing.

The programs offered University of North Florida (UNF) allow students, staff and visitors to learn about team work in different environment. I like to see programs like that be very success like it is at our local university.

Plan Ahead

Know your fishing regulations and have the necessary equipment ready to release fish that you do not plan to keep.

Avoidance

Develop fishing skills to target the size and species you desire. Change location, depth, or bait to avoid catching fish you do not intend to keep.

Appropriate Gear

Use appropriately sized gear that is targeted to the species you desire to catch. Use circle hooks when planning to release fish and where they are required.

Landing Fish

Do not play the fish to exhaustion. Use line strong enough to minimize playing time. Land the fish quickly and if possible, release them while still in the water.

Handling Fish

Use knotless, rubberized landing nets and rubberized gloves to avoid removing the slime layer from the fish’s body. Keep the fish horizontal and support the body. Avoid dropping the fish, especially onto hard surfaces. Use release tools, such as dehookers and recompression tools, to minimize handling. Release fish as soon as practical and do not keep them out of the water longer than necessary.
