Getting There

Scheveningen is on the west coast of the Netherlands, a subsidiary of The Hague. Fly into Amsterdam or Rotterdam, and take public transport from the airport via The Hague to reach Scheveningen. Travelers can also take advantage of the four-hour Eurostar train that runs from the United Kingdom to The Hague Holland-Spoor station via Brussels. It’s a 15-minute train ride from The Hague Central Station in the center of town to the beachside village, with stops directly at Scheveningen Harbor. From May to September, a park-and-ride Beach Express tram operates from the outer edges of The Hague to deliver day visitors to the beach.

Deep Sea Fishing

The depths of the North Sea draw veterans and rookie fishermen from Scheveningen each year. The best way to approach fishing during your trip to the Netherlands is to hire a guide. Private charters departing from Scheveningen Harbor include those guided by Rederij Trip. Sport fishing trips vary according to type and location, and the charters range from mackerel fishing to wreck fishing. The boat contains the appropriate types of rods for rent, and fresh bait and tackle are available for purchase on board. After a 30- to 60-minute ride to hunt down the fish, the skipper and crew will decide on the best location for that day’s conditions and advise your group accordingly. Ice is available to keep any trophies fresh. Reservations can be made online or over the phone.

Fish Species

Sport fish such as mackerel, cod and whiting attract fishermen to the Dutch North Sea. Using light feather tackle, mackerel can often be caught 2 miles offshore and further out as they pursue schools of sardines and other bait fish. In contrast, anchor fishing will yield bottom dwellers such as dab, flounder and young cod. Wreck fishing, or drifting over sunken ships and other material with tackle dragging along the bottom, might result in a pouting or more cod lurking in the shelter below. Sole, often caught by commercial fishermen, might bite your line if you’re drifting far offshore in very deep waters.

Considerations

Fishing season varies according to location and type of fish. Mackerel can be caught from May to October; anchor fishing for cod or whiting is permitted from October to May, as is wreck fishing for cod. Fishing for sole is allowed 100 days per year, and a commercial license for your watercraft is required. The Netherlands Fishing Association has information on how to acquire a Vispas, the Dutch fishing pass, as well as regulations and authorized fishing locations near Scheveningen.

1.Buyer Guide for Kayaks Paddles

I went shopping online at 4 different online stores to find the right paddle for my kayak.

The first store I went to was REI to get more infomation about buying the right paddle for my new kayak. There are a few thing to think about shift, blade, material and price, and last length. By choosing the right paddle you can save yourself a lot energy. Here is some information from REI:

Figuring out the right size (length) of paddle is surprisingly straightforward. The wider your boat is, the longer your paddle needs to be. Your height is also a factor, especially for a narrower boat: Taller paddlers need longer paddles.

I also have enjoy learning and listening to interesting people. There are different rental programs across the country at universities and colleges. I came a cross a program about the local University of North Florida (UNF), they offer “Gear Check-out & Adventure Trips.” The students can use the gear for free, for example, kayaks, canoing, and rock climbing.

Best Fishing Practices

Many anglers plan ahead and incorporate best fishing practices using tips to ensure safe and responsible angling. Thank you to www.fishsmart.org or providing the following tips:.

Plan Ahead

Know your fishing regulations and have the necessary equipment ready to release fish that you do not plan to keep.

Avoidance

Develop fishing skills to target the size and species you desire. Change location, depth, or bait to avoid catching fish you do not intend to keep.

Appropriate Gear

Use appropriately sized gear that is targeted to the species you desire to catch. Use circle hooks when planning to release fish and where they are required.

Landing Fish

Do not play the fish to exhaustion. Use line strong enough to minimize playing time. Land the fish quickly and if possible, release them while still in the water.

Handling Fish

Use knotless, rubberized landing nets and rubberized gloves to avoid removing the slime layer from the fish’s body. Keep the fish horizontal and support the body. Avoid dropping the fish, especially onto hard surfaces. Use release tools, such as dehookers and recompression tools, to minimize handling. Release fish as soon as practical and do not keep them out of the water longer than necessary.
