Freshwater Fishing Regulations
HARVEST OF SHOAL BASS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED
FWC issued an executive order on June 5, 2019, suspending the harvest and possession of shoal bass from the Chipola River and its tributaries effective immediately until the order is repealed. 1. Destin Harbor Boardwalk
The Destin Harbor Boardwalk is one of the most iconic spots on the Florida Panhandle. Visitors to the boardwalk will find a wonderful collection of restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops overlooking beautiful Destin Harbor. Additionally, the harbor is an excellent destination for water sports and boat tours, including the area’s signature dolphin cruises. Of course, the boardwalk is also a great place to just sit back, relax, and watch the boats come into the harbor.
2. Crab Island
Crab Island is another one of the can’t-miss places to visit in Destin FL. Located at the entrance of Choctawhatchee Bay, this underwater sandbar is famous for its waist-deep water, floating food vendors, inflatable slides, and live entertainment. While Crab Island is a well-known party scene, it is also a great spot for low-key fun, such as paddleboarding. The best way to reach Crab Island is by renting a pontoon boat or chartering a trip with a local company. If you visit Crab Island, be sure to keep your wits about you in case of strong tidal currents.
3. Destin Commons
Destin Commons is the area’s ultimate shopping destination. Located 5 minutes away from the Henderson Park Inn, this large outdoor mall is home to a variety of popular stores, including Pepper Palace, Belk, Bass Pro Shops, Talbots, Victoria’s Secret, and Kay Jewelers. Even if you’re not necessarily looking to buy anything, Destin Commons’ scenic fountains, outdoor music, and palm trees make it a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere.
4. Henderson Beach State Park
The Henderson Park Inn is adjacent to Destin’s most beautiful beach! Featuring sugar white sand and emerald green water, Henderson Beach State Park is the perfect spot to catch some rays or go for a swim in the Gulf of Mexico. The state park also boasts a scenic ¾ mile nature trail, which passes through flowers, vegetation, and sand dunes.
5. Destin History & Fishing Museum
Ideal for a rainy day, the Destin History & Fishing Museum traces the history of Destin from its Native American past to its modern-day status as a major vacation spot. This great museum features over 75 mounts of locally caught fish and a number of historic fishing boats. Guests can either take a tour with one of the museum’s knowledgeable volunteers or explore the exhibits at their own pace with an MP3 player and headset.
